POLAND ANNUAL NATIVE WILDLIFE SERIES
2006 2 ZLOTYCH BRASS ALLOY COMMEMORATIVE COIN UNCIRCULATED

Poland annually issues an attractive 2 Zloty coin that  features native wildlife.  The purpose of the series is to present species of animals endangered by developing civilization.  These animal coins have been a hit with collectors.

The 2006 issue features the alpine marmot.

The 2006 entry in the Endangered Species of Poland series features the alpine marmot, a species of ground squirrel that lives in the Tatra Mountains of southern Poland.  The alpine marmot is a large rodent that inhabits in the higher elevations, between 3000 and 10,000 feet.  Adult marmots generally weigh between five and ten pounds, and measure about two feet in length, including tail.

Back of coin shows an image of the Crowned White Eagle, established as the state Emblem of the Republic of Poland; the Eagle’s legs are flanked by the white and red national flag; the notation of the year of issue, 2006, under the Eagle; an inscription, 2 Zt, below the year; an inscription, RZECZPOSPOLITA POLSKA, on top in the surround.
