Background Info For Elvis Presley:

It’s difficult to overstate Elvis Presley‘s influence on music and culture.  Surely, his hip-swinging presence was amazing!!  Moreover, his golden voice and raucous rockabilly caused a rock & roll domino effect.  Elvis’ musical influences were varied.  Firstly, the pop and country music of the time strongly affected Elvis.  Next, the gospel music he heard in church inspired the King.  Elvis frequently attended all-night gospel sings.  Lastly, you can hear in his music the black R&B he soaked up on historic Beale Street as a Memphis teen.

ELVIS PRESLEY IS, QUITE SIMPLY, THE KING OF ROCK & ROLL.

Background Info For Wertheimer:

In March 1956 RCA commissioned Wertheimer, then a 27-year-old freelance photographer.  Firstly, he was to shoot Presley’s 5th appearance on the Dorsey Brothers’ network TV show.  Then, three months later RCA again gave him the job of recording on film Elvis’s appearance on the “Steve Allen Show.”  Importantly, on his own initiative, Wertheimer traveled to Richmond the night before the Allen show to get some shots during Elvis’s concert there.  Moreover, the day after the Allen program, Wertheimer set up his gear at the famous RCA recording session that produced “Hound Dog” and “Don’t Be Cruel.”  Then, after Wertheimer spent July 4 in Memphis photographing Elvis at home and in concert that night at Russwood Park, his extraordinary access to Elvis in 1956 came to an end.

Between those public events, Wertheimer took photos of Elvis in private settings—dressing rooms, restaurants, hotel rooms, train cars, restrooms, and Elvis’s home in Memphis.  Indeed, these candid and private photos have forever elevated the Wertheimer collection above the work of all other Presley photographers.
