The Hound is a fictional, otherworldly humanoid creature from the HBO television series Game of Thrones, and the George R. R. Martin novel series A Song of Ice and Fire on which it is based.  Sandor Clegane, nicknamed The Hound is played by Rory McCann in the HBO series.  The Hound is a skilled warrior in the service of House Lannister, although he refuses to take holy vows and is not a knight.  He joined the Kingsguard when Joffrey took the Iron Throne. 

The Hound was Joffrey Baratheon’s personal bodyguard and retainer to House Lannister. He deserted his post during the Battle of the Blackwater.  He is taciturn and brutal but not without compassion.
