The Gibraltar Dog Coins were produced by the Pobjoy Mint beginning in 1991 and running through 1997. Coin collectors and dog owners alike love the popular Gibraltar’s Royal Dogs coins. A different breed of dog is depicted on the reverse of each year while the obverse features the official portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The final issue in 1997 was the petite Yorkshire Terrier, which originated in Yorkshire with miners breeding a new type of terrier.
