The Isle of Man Government issued a crown every year from 1988 through 2016 depicting a different cat to the delight of cat lovers and coin collectors everywhere.  Voted ‘Most Popular Coin of the Year’ internationally, the award-winning cat has already found a home with millions proud owners.  As legal tender, every coin bears on one side an effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, while the other side displays a detailed relief of the star feline for that year.

The Isle Of Man Cat Series came to an end when in 2016, without much explanation, the increasingly prominent British Pobjoy Mint announced it was ending its oldest relationship with the Isle Of Man, a government that has the authority to issue its own money.

In 2004, the star feline was the Tonkinese.

The Tonkinese, affectionately known as ‘Tonks’, is a relatively new breed and is the result of crossing Siamese and Burmese and said to combine the best qualities of each.  The breed are warm, loving and highly intelligent and make wonderful companions for their human owners.  The Tonkinese have an incredible memory and senses that are akin to radar.  There are five varieties of this breed with different colors and markings.  The fur is short, soft and shiny and their bodies slender with long legs.
